"Anybody can go out and learn a few chords and strum out a song, but to really sing and play a song, you have to
put your heart in it. "
Bessie
Bessie sold seeds to earn her first guitar and learned songs from listening to the Grand Ole Opry on the radio. Bessie married Floyd Lanning and they moved from Ohio to the Nashville area where Floyd played guitar for many Nashville musicians.
Bessie and Floyd raised their daughter, Tara, in Franklin, TN. Floyd passed away several years ago. He was a race care hobbyist and left his daughter Tara with the legacy of being able to fix her own car.
Bessie's two grandchildren are her pride and joy. Erica inherited Bessie's love for music and is pursuing her own music career. Her grandson, Shane, is getting ready for high school.
Bessie had her own music life and played on many Country Music stages. Bessie has never let love, money, or time get in the way of becoming an accomplished singer and musician. Bessie says, "There's a lot of people out there that may have more money than I do, but they're not happier than me."

Cathy retired after 31 years of teaching elementary school. One of Cathy's goals was to become a better guitar player and singer. Bessie and Cathy ran into each other at Dollar General and Bessie agreed to become Cathy's guitar teacher.
For over a year Bessie and Cathy have met every Thursday afternoon and played music as long as their families will allow. Bessie and Cathy have become great friends and Cathy considers Bessie a mentor for her life, not just music.
